The March of Dimes recommends the preconception visit as the single most important thing a woman can do for the health of her baby. If you are planning a pregnancy in the near or distant future, the preconception visit can help you focus on the lifestyle changes you need to make before becoming pregnant. Preconception visits are particularly helpful for women with irregular menstrual cycles, since simple lifestyle changes and complementary therapies can help your cycle become regular and aid in conception.

The preconception visit includes a comprehensive review of your health history and current health status, nutrition, exercise, body weight and lifestyle issues. A physical exam and pap test are offered if needed, along with any other necessary testing or immunizations. Conducted in our warm, home-like environment, the preconception visit with one of our nurse-midwives helps set the stage for a healthy pregnancy.
