NEWS FROM THE MADISON BIRTH CENTER

» Welcome Anastasia

Our new midwife, Anastasia Doherty, started training with Aszani last week. On her first day, Anastasia worked with Aszani in the clinic, sat in on a childbirth class and attended a birth! All in a day’s work for the MBC midwives. Anastasia will be working with Mary and Aszani for the next few weeks as she learns the ropes at the birth center. Please give her a warm welcome when you see her.

» Weekend Mother’s Meetings

We are pleased to announce a new group designed for working mothers or those anticipating joining the workforce. The group will be led by Liz Garcia Hall, an MBC mom, and will focus on issues of interest to working mothers, support and discussion. Occasionally, Liz hopes to host a guest speaker or showcase a mother-owned business. This new group meets for the first time on Sunday, September 10 from 1-3 pm and will continue meeting weekly. The group is free and open to all. There is no registration, just come if you can.

Liz grew up in Madison, went to school in Minneapolis, taught English in Venezuela and ended up back in the Madison area where she lives with her husband, Jose´, daughter Piper and three furry, four-legged friends. She holds degrees in Spanish and Women’s Studies. Liz is a legal assistant for a Madison law firm, teaches Spanish at MATC, owns a translation service, works part-time for the State of Wisconsin Division of Hearings and Appeals and makes baby clothes for her new business, Bright, Bright Baby. She looks forward to meeting other new mommas in the workforce.

»  Infant Massage Class

There are still a few spaces left in the Infant Massage Class beginning next Saturday, September 16, from 10-11:30 am. This is a three-session class that also meets on September 23rd and 30th at the same times. The class is taught by Arlinda Michael, IBCLC and CIMI, and is a wonderful opportunity to learn how to calm and soothe your baby, promote family bonding and meet other couples with new babies. Click here to learn more about the class.

Call the birth center (821-0123) with questions or to register.

»  Medela Products Available at MBC

Madison Birth Center has become a Medela Distributor, and now offers breastpumps and breastfeeding supplies. Madison Birth Center is a Baby Friendly™ facility, and all clinical staff receive extensive breastfeeding education. When purchasing a pump, our staff works with each customer to ensure the pump fits correctly and the client knows how to use and care for their new equipment. Madison Birth Center also offers ongoing breastfeeding classes. Click here for more information.

Thanks to everyone who came to the picnic. The fellowship was wonderful, the day was mild and the food was plentiful. We’ll have photos ready in time for the next newsletter.  ~ Aszani
