» Welcome New Staff

Our new midwife, Anastasia, joins us in early September. The summer has been busy, with lots of beautiful babies born. Many thanks to the MBC staff members who have worked extra hours this summer. Several of our “old” staff members have returned to help us, including Hannah Copp, Mary Sommers and Nichole Baumbach. We are still hiring and training birth assistants to cover our increased volume, and will have bios and photos on the web by September. Here is Anastasia’s brief bio:

“I have been a certified nurse-midwife since 2002 and worked in the healthcare field since 1990. I received my masters degree in nurse-midwifery from the University of Illinois and practiced in the diverse environments of the Chicago public health clinics and Swedish Covenant Hospital for four years. I also served for 10 years in the Illinois National Guard and the United States Army Nurse Corps as a surgical technician, medic and registered nurse. I’ve attended over 200 births as a midwife and have enjoyed assisting women in making their own safe health care decisions. I am very pleased to be returning to my hometown with my husband Tom and daughter Lucy to join the Madison Birth Center's midwifery team in their good work.”

We warmly welcome Anastasia back to Madison and are eager for her to join our wonderful staff!

» Judy Robson Fundraiser

Once again the Madison Birth Center is hosting a fundraising event for Judy Robson, a Wisconsin Senator who is also a nurse. Judy has been influential in many of the health care related bills introduced in the Senate and is especially supportive of Advanced Practice Nurses ( like certified nurse midwives). Last year the fundraiser drew many nurses from around the state, and was well attended. It presented a wonderful opportunity to show nurse educators and policymakers the birth center and provide education about what we do. The fundraiser is on Tuesday, August 29 from 5-7 pm and all are invited. There will be light snacks and beverages served. To learn more about Judy, click here.

Enjoy these last days of summer and we hope to see you all at the picnic!
