NEWS FROM THE MADISON BIRTH CENTER
January 30, 2006
» A Note of Appreciation
As we approach our third anniversary, I want to express my deep gratitude to all the families who have sought our care and attended our classes and support groups over the years. Madison Birth Center is busier than ever, and our success is due to your referrals and constant support. Thank you for allowing us to be a part of your families!
- Love, Aszani
» Meet our Advisory Board
Our Advisory Board plays an important role in the direction of the Madison Birth Center. The Board is comprised of individuals with tremendous business and health care expertise, as well as birth center consumers, and it has worked closely with Aszani and Bill since the birth center’s inception in early 2003.
Recently, one of our advisors had her second baby with MBC. Hale Streicher was born on December 14th in the Mary Breckenridge room in the birth tub. He joins his big brother Aiden, mom Jodi and dad JJ. No doubt he’ll be in attendance at our next meeting in February!

» Emotion Coaching Workshop
By paying attention to early cues, you and your baby can develop a clear emotional vocabulary, leading to fewer tantrums in the toddler years and life-long “emotional intelligence” for your child. This workshop, led by Kristina Stadler, will educate parents about the five basic styles of parenting and the benefits of the "Emotion Coaching" parenting style.
Participants will learn how babies imitate our behavior. Whether you hum when you’re happy or stomp your foot when you’re mad, our babies are learning from us every day and in every way!
Geared toward parents of babies under one year of age, this free workshop will be offered at the Madison Birth Center on Thursday, February 16th , 2006, from 11-12:30. Babies are welcome.
Please RSVP to Jen Perfetti at jperfetti@hotmail.com or
608-354-3238 if you are planning on attending (space is limited).

» Infant Massage
We are offering a new three class series on infant massage from
1:00 - 3:00 pm on February 12th, 19th and 26th, taught by Certified Infant Massage Instructor Arlinda Michael. Infant massage is a wonderful way to stimulate the healthy growth and development of your baby, deepen your understanding of baby’s communication cues and learn effective strategies to soothe. Limit 7 babies. To register online, please click here, or call us at 608/821-0123.
» Breastfeeding Class
Due to popular demand, we have just added another session of the Great Start Breastfeeding class taught by Arlinda Michael, IBCLC. This class will be offered on February 9th from 6:00 - 8:00 pm, in addition to the regularly scheduled class on March 16th. Limited openings are still available for both sessions.
The natural art of breastfeeding is easier when women know what to expect. This class teaches mothers about breastfeeding benefits, how to know when the baby is latched on correctly, how to recognize infant feeding cues, breastfeeding positions and much more. Nursing bras, breast pumps and milk storage are also covered. To register online, please click here, or call us at 608/821-0123.
» Midwifery Bill Scheduled for Vote
AB709 and SB477 - companion bills to license Certified Professional Midwives (CPMs) - have been scheduled for floor votes this Tuesday, January 31st. A huge grassroots effort has gotten the bills this far. Now a final push is needed to ensure the passage of these bills. Please contact your state legislators and senators to express your support today!! (Click here to find out who are your representatives.)
TODAY, Monday, 1/30, has been designated a Lobbying Day at the Capitol. If you can spare an hour, bring your baby /children and come to the Capitol to express your support in person! Members from the Wisconsin Guild of Midwives will be there to help guide you through the process. Look for them in the Capitol rotunda.
TOMORROW, Tuesday, 1/31, we ask that you attend the votes in the House and Senate. The proceedings begin at 11am, and supporters will be divided between the two rooms. A strong show of support is important for passage of this bill! Please come and be seen and heard.

» 100th Baby Born!
We recently celebrated the birth of the hundredth baby at Madison Birth Center. Adia was born to Lisa Nuerenberg and John Vanderveer on November 8, 2005! We welcomed this milestone baby with a variety of beautiful gifts. In addition, Capitol Kids generously provided them with a $100 gift certificate! (Thank you, Peggy!)
