Molly, Sam and Anna

Our baby was due around Christmas of 2003. The night of Monday, December 1st, I was all bundled up, ready to go for a walk with my husband, Sam, when I heard a little "pop." I wasn't sure what it was, so I called Aszani - and while we were on the phone my water ran everywhere. . . We were definitely surprised!

We met Aszani at the Birth Center that night and she gave us the option to stay there or go home. We chose to go home and came back the next Tuesday morning at ten - this time packed to have our baby.

At noon, I asked for a deck of cards, which signaled to Aszani that my labor was not progressing fast enough - especially since my water broke the day before. So they called in Amy Regutti to do acupuncture. Within 2 minutes of having tiny needles stuck in the sides of my pinky toes and the tips of my ears, I had tears running down my face from such intense contractions.

And so the ride began, 12 hours of intense back labor with a posterior baby. From the bath, the bed, my knees, the shower, a team of three pushing on back and hips for hours and many words of support - our little girl was born . . . and then nursing before I could even fathom that she came out. Anna Margaret Mueller was born on Wednesday. December 3rd at 12:26 am. We were tucked in as a family, left to sleep and went home that afternoon.

Sam and I could not thank the Birth Center enough for all their support. I felt my entire pregnancy and birth experience was peaceful and empowering. I'm fortunate that I never had to go anywhere else besides the Birth Center where they're constantly celebrating life and the nature of our bodies. Aszani is honest, gentle, and very intuitive to individual needs. Mary is bold, colorful and bursting with confidence about the female body. They complement each other in the best way.

Anna is the light of our lives. Sam and I owe it to the Birth Center for starting our world of parenthood with such balance and confidence. In a fast-paced society, full of clutter and fears, the Madison Birth Center represents a place where the circle of life is turning at a normal, healthy pace and we feel honored for Anna to have been born there!
