Ina May Gaskin brought the Safe Motherhood
Quilt to Madison. The quilt is a national
effort, led by Gaskin, to draw public
attention to the maternal death rates in
the U.S. and to honor women who have died
of pregnancy-related causes since 1982. The
quilt is made up of individually designed
squares, each one dedicated to a mother's
memory and may mention the date and place
of dealth and name of the woman. The project is
sponsored by the Safe Motherhood Initiative,
USA, a group founded to improve maternal
mortality rates in the U.S. If you know of
