Creating lots of buzz around the country, The Business of Being Born is informative and entertaining at the same time. Madison Birth Center helped sponsor a Madison-area Sneak Preview that quickly sold-out for both showings!

The Business of Being Born
In 2001, actress Ricki Lake gave birth to her second child in her home bathtub with the assistance of a midwife. Her experience was so empowering that Ricki approached filmmaker Abby Epstein to collaborate on a film that would examine the way American women have babies.

The Business of Being Born follows several women, including Ricki Lake and Abby Epstein, as they prepare for and give birth to their babies in the New York City area. The film also explores childbirth in the United States and other countries and spotlights noted experts like Marsden Wagner, Ina May Gaskin and Michel Odent as they critique the cultural values underlying our current obstetric system of care.
