Yoga for Pregnancy
Prenatal Yoga Classes are designed 1) to make you more comfortable throughout pregnancy, 2) to smooth and speed labor & birth, and 3) to create a healing resilience for recovery. Prenatal yoga is open to pregnant women and their partners, and to women expecting to become pregnant in the near future.
Yoga is a wonderful way to support women as they move through the prenatal period. During class Margie will explain important principles of anatomy and share contemplations designed to deepen your bond with your little one. Margie will use props (blankets, blocks, straps) to assist you in poses according to your needs. A major tenet of Svaroopa Yoga is that a muscle in spasm cannot release, so props are used to support areas of the body that need help.
Svaroopa® Yoga poses are used to open the lower spine, hips and pelvic floor, making more interior space for baby to nestle in under the heart. These internal openings make more room for the internal organs of the mother-to-be—relieving tension and discomfort that can go along with pregnancy. Svaroopa® Yoga poses also open up the rib cage area— adding space in the interior of the body for more breathing and baby space.
Wear loose, comfortable clothing. You do not need to bring anything. Equipment is supplied. Do not eat anything heavy two hours before class—so eat a light breakfast.
Yoga blankets, blocks and a prenatal Svaroopa Yoga DVD will be available at the MBC during yoga for you to purchase if needed to help with practice at home.
