Preparing for Pregnancy
The midwives at the Madison Birth Center can assist you in preparing yourself and your partner for pregnancy with our preconception visits. A preconception visit can help you identify and focus on the lifestyle changes you need to make before becoming pregnant. These visits are particularly helpful for women with irregular menstrual cycles, since simple lifestyle changes and complementary therapies can help your cycle become regular and aid in conception.
The preconception visit includes a review of your health history and current health status, nutrition, exercise, body weight and lifestyle issues. Typically these visit are focus on education and conversation, including support in determining fertile times in your personal cycle and education about nutritional and lifestyle support for women preparing for pregnancy. A physical exam and pap test are offered if requested, along with any other necessary testing or immunizations. Conducted in our warm, home-like environment, the preconception visit with one of our midwives helps set the stage for a healthy pregnancy.
