Birth Center care is based on the simple and powerful belief that pregnancy and childbirth are normal processes in the lives of women and families. The woman is the focus of maternity care at the Madison Birth Center, whether giving birth at
home or in the birth center. It is vitally important that she feel empowered to make decisions about her care and place of birth.
Each Madison Birth Center client is assisted during and after the birth of her
baby by a Certified Nurse-Midwife who is well known to her. The midwife stays
with her throughout labor, providing both physical and emotional labor support.
All healthy childbearing women are eligible for birth center or homebirth care.
Women are encouraged to move around in labor, eat and drink freely, and assume
whatever position they choose during birth, including waterbirth.
The birth team will work with each woman to achieve the birth she desires. We
encourage the active participation of childbearing families and invite their
participation in every phase of their care.
