Madison Birth Center is the first birth center in Wisconsin, and the only one to have earned both National Accreditation and "Baby-Friendly" designation.
Founded in 2003 by Aszani Kunkler, CNM, the birth center increases childbearing options available for women and families, providing both birth center and home birth services. We also provide general healthcare services to women in our warm, homelike setting.
Madison Birth Center is staffed by Board-Certified Nurse-Midwives, each with a Masters degree in nursing. A Nurse-Midwife is available at all hours of the day and night for our clients.
OUR VISION
We empower women to choose where and how they will have their babies. We offer healthy women experiencing normal pregnancies the option of birthing in a calm, safe and beautiful setting with care provided by well trained, experienced and credentialed practitioners.
We provide "gold standard" care - creating authentic caring relationships with our clients and utilizing the best practices in the women's health care discipline based on current research evidence.
We care for people using holistic principles - recognizing that each individual encompasses physical, emotional, social and spiritual elements that work synergistically to create a whole. We use the principles of education, communication and client involvement to promote positive health behaviors.
We foster a sense of community for childbearing women and their families.
We encourage the breastfeeding of all infants through education, hands-on support and close postpartum follow-up. We demonstrate our commitment to breastfeeding by attaining and maintaining designation as a Baby Friendly facility.
We educate the general public about the midwifery model of care and build bridges within the medical community to promote professional, collaborative relationships.
We use healthcare resources wisely by providing cost-effective out-of-hospital birth options for healthy women experiencing normal pregnancies.
