Why did I want a natural birth?
I wanted what was best for my child and for me. After watching “The Business of Being Born,” and additional reading, I knew that a natural childbirth was the best for my child and me.
What did I learn from the experience?
I learned how strong I am and what a wonderful husband I have. I discovered how your heart can feel like it will burst because you love this little baby so much! I became so grateful for having the ability and good fortune to have this wonderful experience at the Madison Birth Center, a great midwife and support team!
What it did for my baby?
I was able to hold Natalie right after having her, and I think she is more attached because of it. We were able to go home right away and continued this attachment. She was brought into the world drug-free and with a less stressed mom!
How has it changed me as a person? My family? My perspective?
I am more open with people about my birth experience. Normally I wouldn’t share this kind of experience with anyone, but I do in hopes of changing what the Business of Being Born brought up as the American culture of birth as a scary experience. It isn’t! It’s the most beautiful and amazing experience of my life! I still think of that time with fondness, and will be able to tell Natalie how she was brought into this world in such a positive environment.
My husband has become much more open to the concept of natural childbirth, and is even more convinced of the benefits of home birth!
I truly feel that Natalie’s birth has opened up my world to the amazing wonder of birth. I had always thought birth was an amazing thing, but until I experienced it, it didn’t seem AS amazing as it truly is! What a miracle! I look at Natalie often and think “You were just in my belly “x” months ago!” So amazing
